Gift Reminder and Session Tweak

Gift Reminder and Session Tweak

First, the reminder: this past holiday, each member of the party received one re-roll that could be used for anything (including HP rolls, Follow Me, And Die!). Also keep in mind that the party as a whole can pick the result of any one roll.

Second, the tweak: The Find Familiar casting last night involved what was essentially a re-roll. Riese Fork, I’m going to count that as Finklemur’s holiday gift.

After taking an extended break from exploring the sub-basement below Kaligan’s fort to sell their loot in Midmark and train, the Starchie Boyz ready themselves for another foray into the undead-infested former imperial base. They have been rewarded handsomely in terms of treasure for their curiosity so far, but have found only a handful of clues about this sealed dungeon’s history. Will they ever find more answers? Could there be more riches to discover? Can their luck continue to hold out?

Book-keeping Notes, Session 49 (3/25/15):

Book-keeping Notes, Session 49 (3/25/15):

– The session concluded with the Midmark expedition returning to Kaligan late on the 28th of Denrilden

– Brice and the returning party members can begin training on the 29th of Denrilden. Everyone will be finished with training on 5th of Anurilden (ready to adventure on the 6th)

– I will summarize news that reaches Kaligan during training at the beginning of next session and then we can pick-up on the 6th of Anurilden.

– The party spent a total of 1 hour (6 turns) exploring the dungeon on the 24th; that leaves one and a half hours (9 turns) of burning time on the lantern’s pint. Another 2 pints would have been used to burn the Drowned One carried to the surface.

– Deaths: A Drowned One

– Knocked Unconscious: Three acolytes of the World Forge Brotherhood (Healed by Uthruk and each other)

– Level Restored: Finklemur

Book-keeping Notes, Session 48 (3/18/15):

– The session concluded 7:30am on the 24th of Denrilden; the party was in the octagonal room peering down the just revealed secret passage in that chamber’s northeast corner.

– The party spent a total of 4 hours and 30 minutes (27 turns) exploring the dungeon on the 23rd and 24th; that finishes off the pint of oil from last time (18 turns) and leaves two and a half hours (15 turns) of burning time on another pint (update inventory accordingly). Another 10 pints would have been used to burn all the bodies carried to the surface.

– Deaths: A bunch of monsters

– Knocked Unconscious: Recusson (healed by Brice)

– Level Drained: No one this week

Continuing their search for the undeath curse’s origin, the party presses deeper into the sealed imperial base beneath Kaligan fort. Having been attacked by wight’s with masks that can mimic anyone the wearer touches, sodden sheets that attempt to strangle, and assorted creatures that refuse to stay dead, it is unclear how much longer their luck (such as it is) will hold out. Perhaps the secret passage from whence a group of zombies issued will provide some answers …

Quick Update on Party NPCs (3/17/15):

Quick Update on Party NPCs (3/17/15):

Character sheets for Brice and all hirelings have been updated/added on Roll20. I have not transferred equipment from the hireling ledger to individual sheets (the party can decide if that is worthwhile). The following is a listing of which player is responsible for which NPC (as decided last session):

1. Brice Hissel: Joseph Leven

2. Sturloc & Kottar: Antony Nicklin

3. Arus & Pelgax: Follow Me, And Die!

4. Starchy & Filthas: Riese Fork

5. Barmyr: Rahm Benisaeko

6. Recusson: tzx Azrael

Just wanted to mark the passage from this life of Terry Pratchett today. Although I came to his Disc World series late, I have come to consider Pratchett one of the best fantasy novelists (period) and a very sharp satirist. If you look closely at Midmark — including its politics and police force — there’s a little bit of Ankh-Morpork, Sam Vimes, and especially the wonderful book Night Watch in its DNA.

Thanks to Thorfus’s experiment with the wight that struck Finklemur, the party finally knows one way to permanently destroy the monsters infesting the sub-basement of Kaligan’s fort. Great danger still lurks below, though, since the party has yet to discover the source of the curse or encounter either the great snap-jaw or mysterious floating merman that Carchus described to Chuq. Finally, what dark and mysterious circumstances could explain the odd mixture of secret imperial agents, merfolk, and devil-fish sorcery in these sealed tunnels? Can the party survive long enough to find out?
