The party has finally broken the curse that afflicted Kaligan’s imperial fort and put its dead to rest, making a bargain with the devil (fish) responsible for the undead plague. Unfortunately, this victory was paid for with the blood of the young ranger Bard, whose spine was broken by a flick of a giant albino crocodile’s tail. Returning in a somber mood to the village one more time to rest and train, the party prepares for a trek to the ruins of Xen’Khel and contemplates whether to keep their promise to the possessed statue Axel has freed from the dungeon.

Book-keeping Notes, Session 52 (4/15/15):

Book-keeping Notes, Session 52 (4/15/15):

– The session concluded around noon on the 8th of Anurilden with the party having locked up the fort and returned to the Broken Oar.

– The party spent a total of 4 hours and 40 minutes (28 turns) exploring the dungeon on the 8th; that finishes off the partly used lantern oil (7 turns) and uses 3 hours and fifty minutes of another pint, leaving one hour and thirty minutes of burning left (9 turns). Another 12 pints would have been used to burn the monsters carried to the surface and clear the strangle weed. Adjust inventory accordingly (remember to double lantern usage to cover the hirelings’ light source).

– Deaths: Bard, Albino Giant Croc, Skeletons, Strangle Weed, Yellow Mold

– Knocked Unconscious: Thorfus (revived by Brice and Uthruk)

– Level Restored/Drained: No one

The party has returned to the surface once more, burdened with both loot and their injured hirelings. Although the Starchie Boyz themselves are in fine condition, they decide to rest the night in town to give their less fortunate compatriots a chance to recover. The party also takes this opportunity to consult with Jakelin, Dagaric, and Master Dain about the books and tapestries recovered from the dungeon. Have they found further clues about the imperial base’s purpose? Will they uncover the source of the undead curse? Will Google hangouts crash and burn once more? Find out next week …

Sorry about the technical problems tonight — I finally got back into the hangout, but there were still some audio issues. We can address the evaluation of the tapestries and documents recovered from the sub-basement at the beginning of next session (I thought about posting it here, but the party is likely to have follow-up questions and it would be easier — G+ willing — to handle it in-session).

Abbreviated Campaign Summary, 4/7/15

Abbreviated Campaign Summary, 4/7/15

Having now completed fifty sessions of play, I thought it would make sense to have an abbreviated summary of the campaign distilling some of the information in the individual session reports into a two or three-page report. This could be very useful to new players going forward as well as being a reminder to everyone of unresolved mysteries and conflicts from earlier sessions.

To this end, I have placed a link to a Google document in the “About this community” post. While I have already created section headers for this document and could draft the text if no one else is motivated, I thought it would be best to give you guys a chance to write the report. The goal is to have something brief and focused on the big picture rather than the blow-by-blow format of the session summaries. The reward for contributing substantive content to this report will be the same as for writing a typical session summary (i.e., 150xp times your character’s level). We can discuss this further at the beginning of tomorrow night’s session if there are questions.

Archiving Character Sheets, 4/7/15

Archiving Character Sheets, 4/7/15

I have been collecting character sheets from Roll20 and the Google Drive. These will be the definitive version of the characters as of the completion of session 50 of the campaign. Below is a list of the files of which I have taken copies; please let me know if another version is more up-to-date:

1. Finklemur_Hu_MG_Riese.pdf (3/26/2015) from Google Drive

2. THORFUS_dwf_FTR_Larry (2).pdf (4/1/2015) from Google Drive*

3. Chuq Nourus (LVL 4).pdf (4/3/2015) from Google Drive

4. AXEL_dwf_FTR_Antony.pdf (4/2/2015) from Google Drive

5. Bard (4/7/2015) from Roll20

* I have renamed the Thorfus sheet, eliminating the “(2)” and moving the other versions to a sub folder.

The party finally has some clues tying together the secret imperial base and the merfolk of Midland Bay after taking a second look at the octagonal room’s dragon pillars — along with another decent haul of treasure. They have not, though, found a way to undo the curse afflicting the fort nor discovered the hidden underground dock described by Carchus the shark. Perhaps the next foray into the dark tunnels will provide the answers they seek … or perhaps it will provide only death.

Announcements about Players

Announcements about Players

I spoke with Joseph this Friday and he has decided to retire from the campaign. The late Wednesday nights were proving difficult and he felt leaving early was not a good long-term solution. His druid, Hart, will be returning to the Verdant Fellowship gardens in Vargen after determining that adventuring is not for him. However, I’m pleased to announce that Jacob Sturges will be joining the campaign this Wednesday as a ranger named Bard. I’ve been playing with Jacob in a 5E campaign for a couple of months now and he should be a good fit with our group.
