Choosing the Party’s Next Moves, 9/7/16
With the imminent conclusion of the adventure at Agmar’s Folly and subsequent return to Midmark for training, the party will soon need to choose its next goal. In terms of specifics, there are too many options to list; however, speaking more generally, the main possibilities seem to be the following:
– Do something about the Dark King (the island interior)
– Do something about Marchmain Sivis (Xen’Khel and/or Lonely Island)
– Do something about the Merman Wars and Devil Fish (Midland Bay)
– Do something about Alaine Grell (unknown but related to imperials)
– Do something about Jaegger the Gnome (north of Xen’Khel)
– Do something about the Giant Mines (north of Xen’Khel)
– Do something about Vargen and the Bargemen/Triad Feud (Vargen)
– Follow-up on old rumors
– Follow-up on information from Devil Fish Ancestors/Kalgunn/etc.
– Poke around for rumors and clues and head in a different direction entirely
I’m probably missing some things, but that should be enough to get everyone thinking. There’s no wrong choice here – or perhaps no right choice? – it’s your sandbox to mess with however you want. Feel free to discuss your plans in the comments below.
Chuq’s ambitions:
1. Night Court has him convinced the orbital palace is still a threat. So long as Xeno Tel can spin out souls, killing Marchmain and other lakeys is not a solution. The destruction of the orbital palace won’t remove the others that come and will likely deny our side magic. Xeno Tel has to go and Praxilthalmus and Araquel are our best shot to get that done.
2. Justly so, Chuq is the last person (sans the Dragon Emperor) to approach Prax and for the same reason likely the best. All the same, he would feel better with a trump like the dragon orb (for protection) or some other peace offering.
3. He also want’s to identify/remove the threats to the Humans of Curabel, starting with Midmark. Grell’s pirate fleet is no longer a threat but the devil fish and merman are an open threat to Midmark and Vargen. With the Night Court’s council, he wants to influence the Merman succession and by extension Devilfish sect(s) to the benefit of Midmark/Vargen.
3. Midmark has been infiltrated by Dark King minions. Chuq wants to assess what the grey cloaks are doing about this and how the Boys can help (for a price of course).
4. He needs to know what is happening with the Orders’ Leadership and direction. Those sitting on their asses in Midmark aren’t doing anything about the Inquisitors to his knowledge. Best they get to work, and the Ark Temple can open their eyes to the threats to what their deity has wrought on these islands.
5. The people of Newtown have family that have been slaughtered by the Dark King. Do they want to do something about that or wait on the Colonials to take care of their business? (I know Thorton might not appreciate this point of view).
6. Cannis has done little about his family. Chuq would like to help him in anyway he can.
Order of priorities:
– Merman wars and Devil fish
– Devilfish ancestors
– Dark King & Prax
– Grell/Gnome/Mines (whichever leads to Cannis’ family)
I think our next move is turning over the device/delivering it to the merfolk friendly to Midmark.
Someone also mentioned talking to the guy on the barge.
Without more to go on, chasing Grell is going to be difficult.
Knowing more about how the dark king fits in, would be helpful.
We have to be careful about dealing with Marchmain, as we have to do it by stealth, and any witnesses would have to be taken care of. Not sure how we’d do that.
Following information from the devilfish and Kalgun looks like our next move after that.
We don’t know what’s going on with Axel, so we wouldn’t have that as a reason to go poking around.
Trying to find what’s up with Finklemur, the group bearing the body of the consort, or the dark king are three things to take us that way.
There was also talk of Thorfus going home after we dealt with Grell….
I think Marchmain, Grell, the gnome, giants, and the Vargen issue are just further problems.
We have the mini sub, so perhaps we can investigate sunken dwarven ruins.
I’m not sure if Thorfus is ready to retire. As a player, I’d want others to be a bit higher in level, so a new character would start close to his level. Thorfus is concerned enough about what is going on, that he knows it is too soon to give up the venturing life. If we ever find Axel (or more likely, Axel finds us), that might change his mind.
Chuq is not ready to end his adventuring days with Thorfus. He’d have an open ear to the needs of the Lord of Clan Ironhand however…
Rahm Benisaeko Open ear or prying mind? 😉
Canis will generally vote for whatever path allows him to follow slavery rings in some way, as his goal is to find his wife. Grell was one of the bigger leads, but there are others for him.
– Dark King
– Newton, and whatever happened to Kilmar.
– Lonely Isle and Silver Throne.
– The Fire Giant operation north of Xen’Khel (I think).
He won’t actively try and steer the group towards these, but will make it known that that is his desire and won’t want to delay it too long.
Chuq is all for going north (east or west) once Midmark has a defense/response to its infiltration and shipping.
