I knew that the most commonly accepted theory about the manuscript was that it represented a medical text, but the specifics of the decoding are new to me (although not terribly surprising; medieval scribes were very stingy with parchment space given its expense — I have a 530 page book, Adriano Cappelli’s Dizionario de Abbreviature latine ed italine, which is just a long list of scribal shorthand).
