John Carlson Question – what does the Sub actually look like again and what materials is it made of?
Also (more like a conversation with Kalgunn) could a trans-spatial recipe (say Shield, Magic Missel) be powered with a power source like the engine?
The sub is a cylinder, pinched to either side so as to make what looks like small wings with a bulleted nose. The hatch is on the belly towards the back and the window is on the top side just above the front. The back of the sub has the propellers housed in a rectangular unit that can be pivoted in several directions. It is made out of steel or something very similar to it.
Kalgunn would affirm that transpatial engines and batteries produce power identical to that underlying ‘spells.’ In fact, that is the principle behind many of the dwarven devices/artifacts.
Ok, that’ll make it tricky to modify in order to carry us all, but Edan has ideas.
He figures he could modify a power source to power a shield spell to protect the ship and magic missile as weaponry. Maybe invisibility in order to approach the station.
I’m suddenly imagining the puddlejumpers from Stargate: Atlantis! xD
Possible weapon & defensive systems:
1. *PureEnergy (TM) bolts – Magic missile *
2. Plasma Gun – Fireball
3. Pulse Gun – Lightning bolt
4. *Reflector Shield – Shield *
5. *Cloaking Device – Invisibility *
6. Proximity Mines – modified trap that nearly killed Edan
7. Drones – the electric automatons or that crystal drone
Those marked in bold are the ones I’d have Edan focus on first – starting with the cloaking device and the ship of course. Edan is unsure about the power required – the holy water method seems crude and inefficient and wonders why the imperials would use that method when they’re obviously able to make batteries.
Q: Describing what we saw – what would Kalgunn think of the Impeiral’s plan – would they stand a chance against a dwarven ship?
What I imagine would be a cross between the Puddle-Jumper and the Eagle from Space 1999. I’ll try to sketch something.
Alessandro Bertolucci A heads up: asterisks mark bold-faced text in G+ posts, so it messed up your list a bit.
Kalgunn will listen intently to your description of the sky fortress (and any other tidbits of technology you saw in Gharmarost). At the end, his definitive verdict is that they would have no chance in a stand-up fight with dwarven vessels; however, he will admit that their “board and capture” strategy might be the best of all the bad options when it comes to combat.
Here is the quick sketch. I wish I had more time. Yes, that’s a huge barrel off the aft. It’s air tight and easy to get without too many questions. Pilots (thorfus and edan) Wil get in as they do now, the west will pile in the rear which will have air and light from the main sub

It’s crude, but if we can get the cloaking to work we should be able to get to the station before the satellites can track us. Kalgunn will scoff at this, understandably, but this is what we’ve got to work with and we don’t have time as a luxury
‘Quick sketch’ he says. Nice work!
I’m suddenly feeling a lot better about our chances, whether this works or not!
Yep – “quick” – roughly 10 minutes.
The one thing I’m not sure about is how we’ll get on the station – is there a bay like we’ve seen in the research facilities or is it completely sealed – meaning we’ll have to land on the station then somehow “get in”
all we need is an exterior window and a light source on our side then its a quick series of shadow steps to get in (best to be wearing the underwater suits at first). Also, when in range, Thorfus might be able to contact any automatom within, then he can share their view of the interior to Chuq via the night cap.
I swear I knew exactly how it would look by your textual description Alessandro Bertolucci!
