how does this work?
Wellington Thomas When someone uses a magic item, the XP value is divided by the number of party members & leveled followers.* If the item is subsequently sold, the party also divides the additional GP value exceeding the XP value. Coin treasure is divided evenly (leveled followers get half shares as with items), and jewelry/gems need to be appraised and sold to gain GP/XP. (* Scrolls are an exception; only the mage using/copying them gets the XP).
Thanks for the explanation John. I assume this stuff gets divided in town and we get experience at this time too?
The party has been dividing the loot as they go and gaining the appropriate experience for it and any items they use. That’s a bit different than the DMG, but there have been some stretches when the party has been away from towns for extended periods.
