SWAN

I am researching my wife's side of the family. Any assistance or corrections would be greatly appreciated.

The earliest Swan is Dudley Swan b. Sept. 30, 1774. And married Sarah Greene 1777.

Their son was Thomas Swan b. Sept 11, 1870, d. April 1896. Thomas married Eliza Sanderson.

Charles E. was the son of Thomas and Eliza. Charles was born Sept. 16, 1843 in Waterford, Maine, and died in 1918. He married Julia Emma Netta Leonard July 26, 1864. Julia was born Nov. 19, 1846 in Ohio and died June 28, 1919. Julia's parents were Zenith S. Leonard and Elizabeth R. Ryckman?.

Here is a tidbit of information I have about Charles and Julia:

Charles E. Swan "Graduated from Fryburg Institute in Bethel, Maine and commenced the study of law. In 1863 he migrated to Muscatine, Iowa where he was in the fruit tree business. Later on he studied medicine and became a doctor.

Charles & Julia supposedly moved back & forth from Iowa to Maine, not sure of the years. from letter dated January 1, 1971 from their daughter Clara Lucille Bartholomew Boss."

Charles Swan and Julia Leonard's son was my wife's great-great grandfather, George Thomas Swan b. March 24, 1870, Waterford, Maine, d. June 25, 1936, Lorimor, Iowa. His first wife was Ella Lane. He married Grace Miller June 25, 1897. His married last wife Sept. 21, 1923 she was Josephine Stover, widow of John Thomas Reed.

Grace Miller was born 1880 in Beatrice, Nebraska, and died August 1901.

George Thomas Swan and Grace Miller had four children: Claire Lucille b. 1897, John Carl b. 1898 d. 1980, Ruth Robena, and George Ward Swan.

John Carl married Vivian Hazel Reed Oct. 21, 1919, daughter of the above John Thomas Reed and Josephine Stover.

REED - STOVER

I am researching my wife's side of the family. I have some spotty information on the Reeds and a little better on the Stovers. There is a claim of relationship to the Eisenhowers, but I have not seen any documentation. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Her great-great grandfather was John Thomas Reed, who married Josephine Stover Nov. 12, 1899. Josephine was born March 21, 1876 in Akron, Ohio, and died April 26, 1956 in Des Moines, IA.

Josephine was the daughter of William Stover, Sr. born Jan 14, 1852, died April 11, 1935. He married Mary Lenigar in 1874 in Virginia. Mary was born April 27, 1852 in Ohio and died May 23, 1920.

Siblings of Josephine were: William, Jr. b. 1878, George b. 1882, Guy b. 1885, Mary Aurilla, and Flara.

William Stover, Sr. is the son of Levi Stover and Aurilla Zink.

Mary Lenigar is the Daughter of Isias Lenigar and Mary Hiatt.

John Thomas Reed and Josephine Stover had two children:

1.) Vivian Hazel Reed, born Feb. 7, 1901 in Saylorville, Iowa, and died 1983.

2.) Walter Reed, born 29 Oct 1902 in Colfax, Iowa.
